Basketball Hoops (November 2023)
The Trust, alongside a contribution from the Parent Council Small Sums Fund, has provided mobile basketball hoops, balls and a pump for use for the outdoor space at Darroch. Pupils have been making the most of the outdoor space at the newly refurbished Darroch Annexe, socialising and playing football. The addition of the basketball hoops will encourage even more pupils to use this space and to participate in extra-curricular sport. Thank you to Ms MacIver for applying for a staff grant to facilitate this!
A+ Group (September 2023)
The A+ Group, which supports pupils of colour and their families, has been awarded funding for the 2023-2024 academic year. Last year the Group ran a 6 month pilot project in the school and this year the aspiration is to continue their valuable work and to reach more families. The Group works with families from a broad range of demographics and with those both long-settled in Edinburgh and newly arrived. Families involved are keen to celebrate and share their heritage, and to contribute to achieving racial equality in school, for example, discussing ways to decolonise the curriculum. The Group also works to support particular needs that families feel are not currently being met.

S1 Residential (September 2023)
The Trust awarded money to the S1 Residential at the Lockerbie Manor Outdoor Education to cover costs for pupils that could not otherwise have attended. These types of residential trips are such unique experiences and, for many of us, form some of our most lasting memories of school. The S1s had a fantastic time despite the weather and mud and the photographs of their adventures were the highlight of the October Trust meeting! (Photographs will be added here soon)
Honeycomb Racing (September 2023)
The Small Grants Scheme allows pupils to apply for funds for realisable projects. F1 in Schools is the world’s largest STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) competition, and Honeycomb Racing is a Formula 1 in Schools team comprised of 4 S6 Students from JGHS who, after achieving the fastest car in the UK at the UK Nationals, have qualified for the World Finals in Singapore this September.
Along with manufacturing a miniature F1 car, one of their other project deliverables is a 1 x 3 x 2 metre pit display, which they need to design, manufacture, and transport to Singapore themselves, and which is vital to being able to compete. Substantial funding from many sources will be essential to enable competition at a high level.
